Parent Teacher Conference Form

A Parent Teacher Conference is the perfect forum for parents and teachers to get together and discuss one of the most important issues facing our children today. Educators are faced with a multitude of tough and important problems. One of the most difficult challenges is trying to change the behaviors of children who run rampant in our schools. One of the biggest challenges that faces teachers everywhere is the “zero-tolerance” policy that most school districts have. No child or adult, regardless of their level of misbehavior should be subjected to punishment, even if the behavior is repeated.

It is at these conferences where teachers can gather with parents to share information and experiences. Sometimes these conferences also include facilitators, who are specially trained in dealing with difficult or challenging situations that may occur. These facilitators can provide the much needed support and guidance that a teacher needs when trying to make decisions about a disciplinary action. Most parent teacher conferences are held in the late spring or early summer, so the topics will center on the upcoming school year. Some topics at these conferences include; summer reading programs, preparation for the fall/winter seasons, parent-teacher workshop topics, and school stickers.

There is usually an orientation workshop provided at the parent-teacher conference that parents can attend. The purpose of this workshop is to familiarize the teachers with the policies of their school district and provide them with information that they may use in their classrooms. One of the biggest battles that teachers face today is how to effectively discipline students without causing excessive punishment. Discretion is one of the key components that every teacher should learn. When this policy is disregarded, it makes it easy for a student to slip through the cracks and be disciplined without any consequences.

Many people attending parent teacher conferences are there for professional growth or career advancement. These teachers may be considering changing their careers or going to new schools. Whatever the reason may be, these teachers will need to discuss the issues that come with discipline with their principals. Sometimes, the only way to resolve these problems is for the teacher to confront the principal directly. This is when it becomes necessary to have a seasoned leader in a parent-teacher conference to diffuse the situation. The other option available is for the teacher to follow the instructions provided by their conference organizer and bring in the desired discipline from the office of the school board.

The first step involved in parent conference is the screening of the teachers that have been invited to speak at the meeting. If the school district does not have a parent-teacher conference scheduled, then they may contact the teachers in the next several weeks to see if they would like to join a conference. Once all the teachers have been invited, they are expected to show up in person to this conference.

During the parent-teacher conference, the teachers are encouraged to share what they know about their classroom as well as their reasons for wanting to teach. Many times, parents and the teachers bond over their shared experiences with their students. Teachers are also very cooperative and open to sharing information and teaching tips. It is essential that the teachers at this parent-teacher conference remain calm and in control of the discussion.

There are many ways to get involved in these conferences. One way is to volunteer to help plan the next conference. There are also many support groups formed locally that can help with logistics such as printing materials. There is no limit on how many conferences can be held each year in your area. These conferences can be hosted by a local school district or any other organization that serves educators.

A parent-teacher conference is a great way for you to be proactive with your child’s education. If your child has an issue with discipline, there is no reason why you should not take the issue into your own hands and help the teacher get through the issue with the best possible outcomes. You can do this by volunteering to help plan conferences or hosting one yourself. Who knows, you may inspire a new teacher or even bring a new parent teacher to the school!
